As per the invitation for parents meeting: teachers, SMT members and parents gathered at the school auditorium on 23rd of Feb. Though the school holds the parents meeting whenever felt necessary, the meeting held on 23rd was more imperative than any other meetings. The strength of the meeting was enough to conclude that parents were equally interested in the development of the school. The purpose of the meeting was disclosed when Mr. Fayaz, the supervisor of the school told about the proposal of forming a School Board. Mr. Fayaz provided the details in the slides presentation.
His presentation included the information of the role and functions of the board. The proposed school board will consist of 5 parents, 2 teachers, 2 officials from Ministry of Education as the members of the board. To add more, school head, P.T.A vice president, Secondary and Higher Secondary School Captain and School Administrator respectively will also be the members of the board. The applications for these posts are being issued from 24th of Feb in the school. It was also informed that if the school receives more applications from parents and teachers than the posts on hand, elections would be contested for each post respectively. Parents can vote only to the parent nominees and teachers can vote only to the teacher nominees. The last date for submitting the applications is announced to be 1st March, Sunday. The elections will be conducted on 3rd of March. The elections will not be contested again until any of the elected members either parents or teachers resign or leave the board on their own will. The other selected members of the board will be replaced as they leave. However, the term of the board is decided to be 3 years. The board is yet to be legalized by the government but the very attempt of inviting people to be its part shows how prudent Gn. A.E.C is.
The board will play a decisive role in the development and the smooth functioning of the school. The members of the board are authenticated to decide and change the school policies through mutual discussions. Long term and short term goals will also be a part of discussion.
Senior Assistant Principal, Mr. Abdulla Rasheed proudly expressed his pleasure to the parents regarding the disciplinary progress. He added that the school is still trying to make it better. He also reminded the parents about the goal set and appealed by the Minister of Education this year, that is, Positive visible change, Accountability and Target which is abbreviated as PAT.
Such, few more steps and the modern Maldives won’t be far.
